G.W. Kennemer Middle School proudly bears the name of G.W. Kennemer, Jr., a legendary Duncanville educator whose career spanned more than four decades. Mr. Kennemer began teaching in Duncanville ISD in 1952, serving as an AP and Honors Biology teacher at Duncanville High School until his retirement in 1995. Over the course of 42 years, he inspired generations of students with his passion for science, his commitment to excellence, and his unwavering support for their academic and personal growth.

In addition to his classroom work, Mr. Kennemer coached baseball until 1965 and basketball until 1969, chaired the Science Department, and organized professional development for middle and high school science teachers. His dedication extended beyond academics—he served as a senior class sponsor and regularly attended extracurricular activities to cheer on his students.

Mr. Kennemer’s own academic journey included a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education (1950) and a Master’s in Education (1951) from East Texas State University, as well as advanced studies through the Microbiology Institute at Indiana University and the National Science Foundation’s Summer Institute of Modern Botany and Field Biology.

Respected by colleagues, admired by students, and recognized for his tireless commitment to education, Mr. Kennemer was recommended by the School Naming Committee as the namesake for Duncanville ISD’s third middle school—a lasting tribute to his distinguished career and profound impact on the community. Today, G.W. Kennemer Middle School carries forward his legacy by fostering academic excellence, personal integrity, and Panther pride in every student.
